Use a Tripod
Using a tripod will greatly improve the stability of your video clips, as well as the effectiveness of your Video Analysis.
Camera Position:
Side angles are best for proper analysis. For example, if you are taping a baseball swing, do so from the side - not in front or behind the batter. We always want to see the batter's face, so if you are taping a right handed batter, place the camera on the 1st base side of the hitter. Remember, you want to get a 90 degree side shot shot (the hitter's belt buckle should point towards the camera - view sample picture), however safety always comes first. Most clips are shot from behind the side fence or the backstop to avoid injury. Tape the motion in a game situation if possible.
How close to Zoom in:
When taping the motion, don't zoom in and out constantly. Let the tape roll throughout the entire at-bat. The top of the bat should be at the top of your viewfinder, and home plate should fit into the bottom of your viewfinder.
If you are sending your tape (Mini-DV, DV, DVD, VHS) to CoachQuest to upload for you, please label the tape with your name, user ID, and the instructor you wish to perform your custom lesson. Try to send us a clean tape where the only thing on the tape is the few minutes of your athletic motion. CoachQuest will upload the video to your locker and send an email to your requested instructor letting him/her know the file is ready for analysis. Please remember, we can not return the tape, so if you want to make a copy before sending it to us.
